Title: The American's Creed
Comments: This World War I poster
sponsored by the Liberty Loan Committee of New England promotes the sale
of Liberty Bonds with a statement of American principles, The American's
Creed, which includes excerpts from the Declaration of Independence,
Constitution and Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. It was written in
1917 by William Tyler Page in response to a nation-wide essay contest and
was accepted on behalf of the American people by the U.S. House of
Representatives on April 3, 1918. The poster concludes that it is
therefore the "duty to go to my limit and invest all my surplus in
'Victory' Liberty Bonds."
