Winslow Homer Matted Wood Engraving

"Raid on a Sand-Swallow Colony-How Many Eggs?"

One of the "masterpieces of his work in the engraving field

This is one of Winslow Homer's classic wood engravings in excellent condition. Philip Beam in his book on Homer's wood engravings notes that,

an accent on carefree youth had always been prominent in Homer's work and he brought it to a climax in the mid-seventies with his "children's series." The best known of these are also masterpieces of his work in the engraving field:...Raid on a Sand-Swallow Colony -- "How Many Eggs?"

Below is a close-up that shows one of the mischievous boys climbing the sand dunes and the signature by Homer, "WH" in the sand in the right bottom corner.

This print has full margins as shown above and will come to you matted and enclosed in a plastic sleeve as shown below. The print looks darker in these photographs than it is in person. It is a delightful print of Homer's that displays exceptionally well.

The Old Print Shop sells this classic unmatted for $500 and it is a fair price. We have less overhead outside NYC and can give you a bargain at the price stated below.

Price: $375
