This wonderful 1872 Vanity Fair caricature of Ulysses S. Grant was published as part of its "Sovereigns" series and the caption states, "Captain, Tanner, Farmer, General, Imperator." The print comes with the original description of President Grant's career in the inimitable style of Vanity Fair's Jehu Junior, the start of which is shown below.
