1780 Treasury Note For Continental Army Service

This treasury note signed by Treasurer John Lawrence in 1780 was issued to Andrew Waters "who hath served in the Connecticut Line of the Continental Army."  The reference book "Record of Service of Connecticut Men in the War of the Revolution" states that Andrew Lawrence signed up to fight in the war on April 1, 1777, before the Battle of Saratoga and was still in the Continental Army in the critical year of 1781.  Below is the back of the note showing that interest was paid on it through 1790.

A similar note in better condition is sold at a web site that has some history on the signer, John Lawrence.
